๐Ÿ““ Notion: From Blank Page to Your Own Workspace

Notion can be your notebook, your task manager, your database, your team wiki, and your personal dashboard โ€” all in one place. This course takes you from a single blank page to a workspace you designed, with a hands-on project in every lesson. Personal-first, honest about what's free, and beginner-friendly the whole way.

๐Ÿงญ Notion in 60 Seconds

Notion is an all-in-one workspace made of simple building blocks. Three ideas make it click once you see them:

  • Everything is a block. A line of text, a heading, an image, a to-do, a whole table โ€” all the same kind of thing you can drag, nest, and rearrange. Learn blocks and you can build anything.
  • Pages inside pages. Any page can hold other pages, forever. Your workspace is a tree you shape โ€” a single note today, a personal wiki tomorrow, with no migration.
  • Databases turn notes into a system. Notion's superpower is the database: the same information shown as a table, a board, a calendar, or a gallery, filtered and connected. This is what lifts Notion above every ordinary notes app.

People use Notion for personal notes and journals, second brains, habit and task tracking, reading lists, project management, company wikis, and public websites. By the end of this course, you'll have built your own.

๐Ÿ’ฌ The Honest Bit: What's Free, and What Isn't

We'll be straight with you throughout โ€” Notion's pricing genuinely matters, and most courses gloss over it. Here's the short version (full detail in Lesson 1.2):

  • Free The Free plan is generous and all you need for personal use: unlimited pages and blocks, unlimited databases, and up to 10 guests. Most of this course runs entirely on it.
  • Paid Plus / Business / Enterprise add things like unlimited file uploads, longer version history, bigger guest limits, and admin controls โ€” mostly team and heavy-use features.
  • AI add-on Notion AI is a separate paid add-on. It's optional; every lesson works without it, and we clearly mark anything that needs it.

Whenever a feature costs money, you'll see a badge like the ones above. No surprises.

๐Ÿ“š About This Course

Notion has a reputation for two contradictory things: being wonderfully flexible, and being overwhelming. Both are true โ€” and the reason is the same. Notion hands you raw building blocks and a blank page and says "make anything." That freedom is paralyzing until someone shows you the handful of concepts underneath. That's what this course is for.

We start at zero: no jargon, no assumptions, nothing set up. You'll build a real page in the first lesson. From there we go steadily โ€” blocks and pages, then Notion's famous databases (which get a full five-lesson module because they're the whole point), then formulas, templates, dashboards, collaboration, the newer AI/Sites/Forms/Calendar features, and gentle automation. We finish with a capstone where you design and assemble your own complete workspace.

Every lesson is project-driven: you don't just read, you build. And every lesson teaches you how to think in Notion, not just which buttons to press โ€” because the buttons change, but the mental model lasts.

What You'll Learn

  • Build pages fluently from blocks โ€” text, media, callouts, toggles, columns, subpages
  • Master Notion databases: properties, views (table/board/calendar/gallery/timeline), filters, sorts, relations & rollups
  • Write Formulas 2.0 for dates, progress, and status โ€” with optional deeper patterns
  • Reuse everything with templates, and build a personal system (tasks, notes, PARA) plus a dashboard home base
  • Share safely, use guests and teamspaces, and collaborate with comments and mentions
  • Use the modern surface: Notion AI, Sites, Forms, and Calendar โ€” honestly, including cost
  • Automate with buttons and database automations, connect other tools, and (optionally) touch the API
  • Work on mobile, migrate in from other apps, keep your workspace clean, and design a system that lasts

Who This Course Is For

  • Complete beginners who have never opened Notion โ€” we assume nothing
  • Personal users who want a second brain, a life dashboard, or just notes that don't get lost
  • Switchers coming from Evernote, OneNote, Google Docs, or Apple/Google Notes
  • Small teams who want a shared wiki, project tracker, and docs in one place
  • Tinkerers who want automation, dashboards, and a system that scales โ€” the optional deep-dives are for you

๐ŸŒŸ How to Get the Most Out of This Course (and Out of Notion)

Notion rewards a particular way of working. Follow these principles and you'll get ten times the value โ€” from the course and from the tool for years afterward.

๐Ÿง  Mindset

  • Start small, start now. Your first workspace will be simple and a little messy. That's correct. A tiny system you actually use beats a beautiful one you're still planning. Build the first page today.
  • Don't copy a mega-template on day one. The most common beginner trap is duplicating someone's 40-database "life OS" and never touching it. It fits their brain, not yours. You'll build your own, and understand every piece.
  • Resist database-itis. Not everything needs to be a database. Learn when a plain page is the right answer โ€” this course is deliberately ordered to build that judgment.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ How to work through the lessons

  • Keep Notion open beside the lesson. Do every step live in your own workspace. Reading about databases teaches you nothing; making one teaches you everything.
  • Build one real workspace as you go. Don't use a throwaway. Use the workspace you'll keep โ€” by Lesson 29 it becomes your actual personal operating system.
  • Do the Learning Journal. Every lesson ends with a reflection prompt you write inside Notion. It's not busywork โ€” journaling in the tool is the fastest way to make it stick, and it doubles as your first real page collection.
  • Follow the order once, then wander freely. Each lesson earns the next. After a first pass, treat the course as a reference and jump around.

โšก Habits that compound

  • Capture in one place. Send every idea, link, and task to Notion first (the web clipper and quick-add help โ€” Lesson 27).
  • Template your repeats. The second time you do something, make it a template. Future-you will thank you.
  • Review a little, often. Five minutes tidying beats a three-hour rebuild once a year.
  • Learn a few shortcuts. The slash command, /, and a handful of keys will make Notion feel effortless.

โฑ๏ธ How much time?

About 29 hours of focused work across 29 lessons. A sustainable pace is 2โ€“3 lessons a week โ€” roughly two months to complete, with your workspace growing the whole time. In a hurry? Modules 1โ€“3 (eleven lessons) make you genuinely productive on their own.

๐Ÿ“– Course Modules

Nine modules, 29 lessons, one continuous build. Databases get a full module because they're what make Notion special โ€” and Module 1 alone gets you further than most people ever go.

Module 7 ยท The Modern Notion โ€” AI, Sites, Forms & Calendar

Notion's newer surface, explained honestly โ€” including exactly what costs extra.

Module 8 ยท Automations & Integrations

Let Notion do work for you โ€” no-code buttons and automations, connected tools, and an optional API dive.

Module 9 ยท Mastery & Beyond

Fluency across phone and desktop, a clean migration in, then the capstone: your own system.

โœ… Prerequisites
